How it works & your privacy: A PNG is a grid of pixels; an SVG is a set of shapes. Going from pixels to shapes is called tracing: the tool finds the edges of each color region and fits smooth curves around them. That works very well for logos, icons, signatures and line drawings, and poorly for photographs, which turn into huge, blobby files. Everything runs on your own machine, and your image is never uploaded.
