Error Message Search

Paste an error message and find the fix, not the scam 'PC repair' sites. It runs entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your computer.

The search that is actively hostile

Error messages are one of the few queries where the results are worse than useless. "Download our repair tool to fix this error" pages — the reimage and restoro genre — are built specifically to rank for error strings, and they crowd out the answer.

They also target people who are already stuck and worried, which is what makes them worth excluding rather than merely ignoring.

What gets built

The exact error text is quoted, so the engine matches your error rather than a similar one. Stack Overflow, GitHub and official vendor documentation are pushed up. The repair-tool farms are excluded by name.

Add your context — the application, the operating system, the version — when you can. "Windows 11" or "Outlook 365" narrows results to your situation and skips answers written for a system that is not yours. It is the single biggest improvement you can make to an error search.

One thing worth trying first

Strip the variable parts out of the message before searching. File paths, GUIDs, session IDs and line numbers are unique to your machine and will match nothing.

The stable part — the sentence the developer actually wrote — is what other people also saw. Quote that.

Questions

Common questions

What does this tool do?

It builds a focused search for an error message — matching the exact text, favoring sites with real answers, and cutting the fake 'repair tool' pages — then runs it in your chosen search engine.

How do I use it?

Paste the error message or code, optionally add your context (the app, operating system, or version), choose whether you want a fix or the cause, and click Search.

Why is this better than pasting the error into Google?

It quotes the exact error so the engine doesn't match a different one, and it favors trustworthy sources like Stack Overflow, GitHub, and official docs while cutting the scam pages that crowd error searches.

What scam sites does it block?

It excludes the fake 'download our repair tool to fix this error' sites (the reimage/restoro/outbyte type) that flood error searches and try to sell you junk cleanup software.

Should I add my operating system or app version?

Yes, when you can. Adding context like 'Windows 11' or the app and version narrows results to your situation and skips answers for unrelated systems.

Does it track my searches?

No. The tool builds the search on your own computer and doesn't track what you look for. The search runs in whatever engine you pick, which has its own policies.
