UUID & Lorem Ipsum Generator
Generate unique IDs (UUIDs) or placeholder lorem ipsum text. It runs entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your computer.
Identifiers nobody has to coordinate
A UUID is a 128-bit number big enough that two randomly generated ones colliding is not a practical concern. That property is what makes it useful: two systems that have never communicated can both mint IDs and never clash.
Which is why they turn up as database keys, file names, request IDs and anything else that needs to be unique without a central authority handing out numbers.
Version 4, from a real random source
These are version 4 UUIDs — the random kind, and by far the most common. They come from the browser's cryptographically secure random source, not from Math.random(), so they are suitable for actual use rather than only for examples.
The format options exist because different ecosystems expect different presentations: lowercase or uppercase, wrapped in braces the way some Microsoft tooling writes them, or with the hyphens stripped for a plain 32-character string.
And lorem ipsum, in the same tool
The second half generates placeholder text. The point of nonsense Latin is that it has the visual texture of real prose without the meaning, so you can judge a layout without reading it — real copy pulls the eye into editing rather than designing.
Choose words, sentences or paragraphs and how many. It starts with the familiar "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" opening by default, which you can turn off for fully random filler.
Questions
Common questions
What does this tool do?
Two developer helpers in one: it generates UUIDs (unique identifiers) and lorem ipsum placeholder text. Switch between them with the toggle at the top, choose how many you want, and click Generate.
What is a UUID (or GUID)?
A UUID — also called a GUID — is a 128-bit identifier like 3f2504e0-4f89-41d3-9a0c-0305e82c3301 that's random enough to be effectively unique. Developers use them as database keys, file names, or anything that needs a one-of-a-kind ID without coordinating with a central system.
What version of UUID does it make?
Version 4 — the random kind, which is by far the most common. They're generated using your browser's secure random number source, so they're suitable for real use, not just examples.
Can I change the UUID format?
Yes. You can switch between lowercase and uppercase, wrap each one in {braces} (the style some Microsoft tools expect), and turn the hyphens off for a plain 32-character form. Set how many you need and they generate at once.
What is lorem ipsum for?
Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin-like placeholder text used to fill a layout, mockup, or template so you can see how real text will look before you have the real content. It's meaningless on purpose, so it doesn't distract from the design.
How much lorem ipsum can I make?
Choose words, sentences, or paragraphs, and how many. By default it starts with the familiar 'Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…' opening, which you can turn off for fully random filler.
Is anything sent anywhere?
No. Both generators run entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded, and the UUIDs are created locally on your own machine.
Our own software
Dictate it instead of typing it
Hold a key, say the sentence, and the words land in whatever Windows window you were already in. Runs on your own PC — no account, no upload, nothing to renew.
