Getting past the summary layer

Search for almost any researched topic and you get articles about the research rather than the research. Content farms, aggregators and AI-written summaries sit between you and the primary source, each one a little further from what was actually measured.

This pushes toward the sources themselves — scholarly databases, .edu and .gov domains, and PDFs, which in practice is where papers and reports live.

Why targeting PDFs works so well

It is a crude filter and an effective one. Actual papers, government reports, standards documents, technical specifications and white papers are overwhelmingly published as PDFs. Content-farm articles almost never are.

Choosing the PDF or studies option targets those directly, which is the fast route to a real document rather than someone's paraphrase of it.

Reading what you find

A .gov domain or a PDF is a signal, not a guarantee. Primary sources still need reading critically — who funded it, how big the sample was, whether it was peer reviewed, and how old it is.

What this gets you is the document itself, so those questions are answerable at all. The query is built on your machine and not recorded.

Questions

Common questions

What does this tool do?

It builds a focused search that steers toward authoritative sources — scholarly databases, .edu and .gov sites, and PDFs — and away from content-farm summaries, then runs it in your chosen search engine.

How do I use it?

Type your topic or question, optionally narrow it with an author, year, or field, choose the kind of source you want, and click Search.

Why is this better than a plain search?

It pushes toward primary and authoritative sources most people don't know how to ask for — PDFs, .edu and .gov sites, and scholarly databases — while cutting the summary and answer farms that crowd out real sources.

Can I find research papers and PDFs specifically?

Yes. Choose the PDFs/papers or studies options and it targets those directly, which is the fast way to reach actual documents instead of articles about them.

Does it track my searches?

No. The tool builds the search on your own computer and doesn't track what you look for. The search runs in whatever engine you pick, which has its own policies.
