Four rules, and we don't bend them

Buy once

One price, one product, everything included. No tier that cripples the thing you came for. We can promise this honestly because there's no server we'd have to keep running — or shut off.

Local

The work happens on your machine. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is logged on our end, and there is no our end. Software with no server can't have an outage, a breach, or a change of ownership that changes the deal.

Predictable

The tool does what you told it, not what it guessed you meant. When something genuinely needs a judgement call, we show you the choice instead of making it quietly.

Checkable

Every claim on this site is something you can test yourself in a few minutes. Where a competitor beats us, we say so and show you the case. That's cheaper than being caught.

More is coming

A photo organiser with search that understands what's actually in the picture, a PDF editor, and a tool that puts your phone's messages on your desktop. They'll be listed here when you can buy them, not before.

Free Windows apps

Small Windows utilities, free

Not trials, not teasers. Finished tools we use ourselves, given away because a good free utility is a better introduction than an ad. The first few are waiting on a code-signing certificate rather than on code.

How we build

Thirty years of IT, and a rule about guessing

Great Scott Labs builds software the way you would build a tool for your own bench. Three decades of keeping other people's software running is a good way to learn exactly what makes software annoying to live with.

Everything here got built because I needed it myself first, and nothing ships until it has been used all day, every day, for weeks. The free tools exist because every time I needed to convert an image or format some JSON I landed on a page smothered in ads that wanted to upload my file to somebody's server. So I wrote my own. Then I wrote forty-four more.

When a question comes up — is this feature worth it, is this model fast enough, is this claim actually true — we measure it instead of arguing about it. Sometimes the measurement says no. That's still an answer worth having.

And because none of it phones home, none of it depends on us still being here. There is no server to switch off and no subscription to lapse. Software you buy in 2026 still runs in 2036 whether or not we are still shipping — which is a promise a cloud product cannot make at any price.
