QR Code Generator
Make a QR code you own outright — no redirect, no expiry. It runs entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your computer.
The link that stops working
Many free QR generators do not put your destination in the code. They put their short link in it, which redirects to your destination. That gives them scan analytics and gives you a dependency.
It also means the code dies when they shut the service down, start charging, or decide your free tier has expired — and by then the code is printed on five hundred business cards or a sign on a wall. This builds the destination directly into the code. There is nothing in the middle, nothing to expire, and nobody who can change where it points later.
SVG or PNG
SVG if the code is going to be printed or resized — it is vector, so it stays perfectly crisp at any size including very large. PNG if you just need an image file for a document or a post.
Both scan identically. The difference only shows up when the code is enlarged.
When a code will not scan
Three causes cover nearly all of it. Contrast too low — a QR code needs a genuinely dark pattern on a genuinely light background, and tasteful mid-tones scan badly. Not enough quiet zone — the blank border is part of the specification, not decoration. Or too much data crammed in.
Error correction is the other dial: higher levels (Q, H) let the code survive being partly covered or smudged, which is what you want for a printed code or one with a logo over the middle, at the cost of a busier pattern and less capacity. M is the right default for most things.
The tool warns you when contrast is too low or the content will not fit, rather than handing you a code that fails in the field.
Questions
Common questions
What does this tool do?
It turns any text — a website link, phone number, Wi-Fi login, email address, or plain text — into a QR code you can download and use anywhere. The code is generated right in your browser and is yours forever.
How do I make a QR code?
Type or paste what you want the code to contain into the Content box. The QR code updates instantly on the right. When it looks right, click SVG or PNG to download it.
What are the Quick templates for?
The template dropdown helps you build special kinds of codes correctly. Pick Wi-Fi and fill in the network name and password, and the code will let a phone join the network when scanned. There are also templates for website links, email, phone numbers, and text messages.
Should I download SVG or PNG?
Choose SVG if you'll print the code or resize it — it stays perfectly sharp at any size. Choose PNG if you just need a regular image file to drop into a document or post online. Both work the same when scanned.
What is 'error correction' and which should I pick?
Error correction is how much damage or obstruction the code can survive and still scan. Higher levels (Q or H) make a busier code that still works if part is covered or smudged — useful for printed codes or ones with a logo on top. M is a good default for most uses.
Can I change the colors?
Yes — set custom dark and light colors. Keep strong contrast (a dark code on a light background scans best). If the colors are too close, the tool warns you that the code may not scan.
My code won't scan — what's wrong?
The three usual causes are low contrast between the two colors, too little border around the code, or trying to pack too much text in. Increase the contrast, raise the Border setting a little, or shorten the content. The tool warns you if contrast is too low or there's too much data.
Why does it say 'too much data'?
A single QR code can only hold so much. Long text — especially long URLs — can exceed it, more so at higher error-correction levels. Shorten the content, or lower the error correction from H toward L to fit more in.
Is my data private?
Completely. The code is built entirely on your own computer and nothing you type is ever uploaded or sent anywhere. Unlike many free QR sites, this tool does not route your code through a tracking link — the destination is baked directly into the code, so it never expires and no one can change or track it later.
Does emoji or non-English text work?
Yes. The tool encodes everything as UTF-8, so emoji, accents, and non-Latin scripts are stored correctly and scan properly — something many quick web generators get wrong.
